Friday Nothin could be finer than a drive in the Carolinas

We will head east along Hwy 76 towards Clayton, then onto Warwoman Road.

Heading south along the East Fork Chattooga River, which runs from Jackson County, North Carolina thru Oconee County, South Carolina. The movie Deliverance canoe scenes were filmed on this section of the Chattooga River.

We head north to WNC Lake Toxaway, which is the largest privately held lake in North Carolina. The lake is man-made and covers 640 acres. On August 13, 1916 after severe flooding, which deluged the Toxaway River with 24 inches of rain in 24 hours, the dam was not engineered with a water level control system, causing a failure. The only casualty of this disaster was the death of a mule.

Our lunch stop will be in Brevard at The Phoenix and the Fox.  They are a farm to table restaurant with a changing menu

After our lunch stop, we drive down a very fun twisty road on US 276, which has 42 turns in 9 miles including two horseshoe turns.

On to SC 11 Then US 76 thru Sumter National Forest to Clayton and back to the Brasstown.

The drive is long and challenging. Get plenty of rest, please start with a full tank of fuel, and a camera, and remember Rule #1!
