Friday Tail of the Dragon Early

The TOTD is one of America’s legendary roads. Only 11 miles long, it has 318 turns between the NC/TN border and the famed Tabcat Bridge.
This drive is technical and challenging. Even at moderate speeds, this is a spirited ride, with gravity cavities, blind curves, and quick switchbacks. You will be physically challenged by the forces acting on your car as you learn again the phrase “Brake, Look, Turn” has real meaning. Furthermore, you will come to appreciate the Slow is Smooth, and Smooth is Fast!
Shortly after breakfast, we’ll depart Fontana Village and turn due north on Highway 28 (aka The Hellbender!). We will turn into the Fontana dam area for a quick visit of about 1 hour. Restarting, we’ll slip through the Crossroads of Time (CROT) without resting, and push on to the US129 Harley Davidson dealership on Chilhowee Lake. We’ll pause there for about an hour for pics, drinks from the HD shop, and some bench racing!
On the return trip, we’ll pause at the CROT for some fast dining and shopping for curios and relics of our mission across the TOTD. Following that, a group pic outside with a Dragon or two, and then we’ll break up for local driving at your leisure. I highly recommend a run south on The Hellbender!

This drive is approximately 65 miles, is planned for a 4 hour duration (including stops) and departs Friday Morning.
