Friday North Georgia Curves and Falls

From 1914-1927, the Georgia Power Company finished dams on various points of the Tallulah River, forming a series of lakes that have  since served as premier recreation areas for Northeast Georgia. We will follow the curves around three of these lakes - Burton, Seed, and Rabun - and take a scenic stop at the Tallulah Gorge State Park (parking $5). One of the most spectacular canyons in the eastern U.S., Tallulah Gorge is two miles long and nearly 1,000 feet deep, with some short and easy rim trails to several overlooks. Tightrope walkers have twice crossed the gorge, and visitors can still see towers used by Karl Wallenda in 1970. After the scenic stop, we will take the curvy roads back around Lake Rabun and Lake Seed to our lunch stop in Helen. After lunch, we will head back up to Hiawassee.
