Nowhere and Back

This years drive will be a return to a favorite. The Road To Nowhere. The Road to Nowhere is the result of a broken promise to the residents of Swain County. When their routes to their family burial plots and to Maryville and Alcoa were cut off by the flooding of Fontana Lake they were promised a new road through the mountains. It was started but never finished. The part that was built however is beautiful and empty. That's where we are going. Nowhere! https://www.greatsmokies.com/road-nowhere/

Getting there and getting back we will drive twisty routes through Brasstown, Robbinsville, around Lake Santeelah, and up to the beautiful Maple Springs Overlook. At Tapoco we will travel a first time for QDM road. The Rhymers Ferry Road to Fontana. You'll need to concentrate here :-). We hope to picnic at Fontana. (TBD) Then on to Nowhere! Heading homeward another favorite. Hwy 28. The Moonshiner! Perhaps my favorite of all our QDM roads. From Franklin back to Brasstown Valley via US 64. Big sweepers scenic vistas.
